Let's look at triggering an SMS to be sent a few days days after an Email. Imagine you want to send Contacts an Email informing them of a new, limited-time offer. Three days later you may want to send a follow-on SMS, reminding your Contacts to avail of the offer before it's too late.
First of all, ensure that your Contacts will be sent your Email as soon as you Activate your Journey. In the Step 1. Select the Trigger event dropdown, choose Other... and then choose Date Time. Choose the Date and Time you would like your Contacts to receive your Email. In this example, let's choose May 1st 2015 at 01:00pm.
In the Step 2. Select the Action to run dropdown, choose Send Mail to Audience. Click the Green Accept button at the bottom right of the window. This means all Contacts with a valid Email address in the Contact List you have associated with your Journey will receive your Email on May 1st 2015 at 01:00pm when you click Activate Journey. The Activity Trigger is now enabled and you will be returned to the Schedule screen.
Now let's set up your SMS to be automatically Triggered three days later. The easiest way to do this is to set up a second Date Time Activity .
In the Journey Activities widget, click the Green Add Activity button. In the Step 1. Select the Trigger event dropdown, choose Other... and then choose Date Time. On this occasion, make the date May 4th 2015 and set the time at 09:00am.
In the Step 2. Select the Action to run dropdown, choose Send SMS to Audience. Click the Green Accept button at the bottom right of the window. The Activity Trigger is now enabled and you will be returned to the Schedule screen.
Remember to click Save and to Activate your Journey!
